LANDSCAPES
Foggy January day in the Ottawa Arboretum

At the Central Ottawa Experimental Farm, space has been set aside for an arboretum to conduct tree research. Planting began in 1889 to test native and foreign trees and shrubs for their hardiness and adaptability to the climate of the eastern Ontario and western Quebec region. The Arboretum now includes more than 1,700 varieties of trees and shrubs.

This large garden of trees and shrubs was laid out from the beginning to create a pleasant landscape, full of tranquility where it is pleasant to stroll to the rhythm of the seasons.

I frequented and photographed the Arboretum for several years. It was for me a place of comfort, renewal and long meditative walks. The cycle of the seasons observed in the trees in the garden amazed me and I hope to pay homage to this magnificent site in my photographic work.

This first portfolio on the Arboretum reports on a particular day in January when a sudden heat which created strong condensation proved conducive to a Zen walk and minimalist black and white photography.

Take a break and let yourself be seduced by the sinuosity of the branches, the positive and negative spaces, the light, the tones of gray, and the feeling of space that emerges from these deliberately narrow and vertical compositions within a 5:8 ratio.
